There is no major difference between Series 7 and Series 5 except for the slightly better shaving experience and some useful additional features. If my budget is tight I would go for Braun Series 5590cc which is definitely a good shaver.

I won’t say I have a thick and fast growing beard that needs a second shave by 5 o’clock in the evening but they are not thin either. It is a problem for me to use an electric shaver since it won’t capture much hair in a single stroke, especially in problem areas. I have to repeatedly run the shaver in the same area many times for a clean shave.

It is usually hard to capture flat lying hairs especially in the neck area even for a razor shave. In fact, I often cut myself shaving with a razor mostly in the neck area trying for a smooth and clean look. I can get the most thorough shave comfortably and safely, with no bleeding.

Flexible shaving

I really like the flexibility of the shaver to smartly follow every facial curve. It has a pivoting shaver head and floating foils. The shaver foils slide smoothly over your skin without pressure and irritation. If you look at the shaver head closely the trimmer sits nicely in the middle of the two flexible foils designed to give the most comfortable and competent shave.

Adjustable modes for different skin and beard

My skin is annoyingly sensitive; I get rashes every time I shave including razor. I won’t say the problem is resolved but it is a lot better with the personalization modes available with the Series 7. I set it to extra sensitive mode every time I shave and rashes disappears a lot faster than usual. They also have Normal and Intensive modes. Intensive mode works the best to capture more hair but I prefer sensitive.

Parts and warranty

The shaver comes with two years warranty but it is designed to last for six years. Well, this justifies the slightly dearer price tag at least for me. I know many of us would have upgraded our shaver before the six years is up.

The Braun shaver head is easily replaceable and often available at discounted rates (below $35). The cutterblock and foil (shaver head) is recommended to change at least once every 18 months. But many people use it without a problem for at least two years. I am yet to experience and comment on this (running 11 months and still going strong) but I guess that will depend a lot on how often we use the shaver and the types of beard.

Charging and cordless shaving

Series 7 uses the powerful rechargeable Li- Ion battery. It takes about an hour to fully charge the shaver for approximately 50 minutes of cordless shaving.

Which model to buy?

The Braun Series 7 is available in three different models: Series 7 790cc, Series 7 760cc and Series 7 720s (U.S market).

There are no significant differences between 790cc and 760cc models. The battery status display is in LCD with 790cc and LED for 760cc. The hygiene status indicator and Fast Clean feature is only available with 760cc which are negligible.

I bought the Series 7 790cc because it was discounted and cheaper than the other models at the time of purchase from Amazon. I would choose the cheaper model if money is tight. However, Series 720s comes without the Clean and Renew System which is a nice and innovative feature which is hard to ignore. The shavers otherwise are equally efficient with similar features other than as mentioned above.

Any complaints?

They are slightly dearer, and some people experience faster evaporation with the cleaning fluid. Considering the durability and efficiency of the shaver, it is worth the price tag for most users including me. I easily spend more money buying Gillette blades in two years than the cost of the shaver. Of course, we don’t spend $200 at a go buying blades but it eventually adds up and I am uber impressed with the cleaning power of the Braun Clean and Renew System.

The Braun Clean and Renew is an alcohol-based cleaning solution and tends to evaporate fast. One cartridge is meant for 30 cleaning cycles but few people use it for just 14 – 21 cleaning cycles.

TIP: Make sure that the cartridge is properly sealed within the cleaning station to avoid evaporation and it will last for 30 cleaning cycles and more. There are people who claim to have used one cartridge for 6 months. They just clean once every week and reseal the cartridge with the original cap to avoid evaporation when not in use. This may be practical for someone who doesn’t shave every day. I find it reasonable to use one cartridge a month to get the fresh smell and comfortable shave every day.

I check prices regularly for this shaver and the cleaning fluid and by far the best offer has always been at Amazon. Otherwise, you can check from your local general store or online sources like Walmart, Drugstore, Walgreens, Shavers, E-Store or Soap. I would recommend buying it from Amazon because the price is heavily discounted and quite often you can get free fast shipping straight to your door.
